SAM JOHNSON WRITER & DIRECTOR

Earthy Encounters is a short family action-adventure film about a 15-year-old boy who believes he can save his terminally ill brother with an ancient, sentient plant he’s unearthed in the garden centre he works at.

Funded by Creative England and BFI as part of their ‘emerging talent’ scheme, the film stars FIONN O’SHEA (Handsome Devil) and JESSICA BARDEN (The End of the F**cking World).

It premiered at Tribeca 2018, and has been a big festival hit, playing 100 international festivals and winning awards at Dublin, Seattle, Newport Beach, Hamilton and San Jose.

Lensed by cinematographer EBEN BOLTER (The Last of Us, The Life of Chuck), the film was shot on the Arri Alexa 65 – the first short film ever to do so.

Some of the film industry’s finest and brightest also contributed to the film’s production, including award-winning puppeteers ANDY HEATH and IESTYN EVANS (The Muppets, Star Wars) and renowned stunt coordinator JAMES O’DONNELL (Kick Ass, The Hobbit).
